When will the church be raptured?

The predominant positions regarding the rapture of the church are either pre-tribulation or post-tribulation. What does the Bible say?

2nd comingThe Duck-billed Platypus defies the normal rules of nature and presents a biological conundrum. The 'Platypus Challenge' presents an opportunity to examine these areas of scripture on which there are differing opinions.
(To get an idea of how it works out in practice, visit a previous question of 'Once Saved; Always Saved'.)

This Platypus Challenge is looking at the timing of the rapture of the saints.

Under 'Platypus' rules, each of the two participants (of opposite views) supplies up to eight verses (or short extracts) directly from the Bible without any additional comments or remarks. Each participant then furnishes a response – in the form of a rebuttal – to the opposing verses.

Note: There are variations within the pre-trib view. There are also different views on the nature of the Rapture itself i.e. a disappearing act or a welcoming party. This article does not seek to explore these differences of opinion.

The verses offered by the participants and their responses are listed below.

It will later be possible for site members/visitors to respond to this debate. However, and mirroring the Platypus methodology, the rules of engagement require that only Bible verses alone can be used to support an argument (i.e. the case being put). However comments and observations (counter-arguments) can be made relating to the verses placed by others.
